Teaching Projects
Imagining the Monster and the City in Contemporary Fantasy and Horror: A Students' Conference
Responsibility
Duration
Summer Semester 2020
Project Description
Students of the two seminars "Ecocritical Perspectives on Monsters and Monstrosity" and "Fantastic Cities" researched popular culture texts independently and prepared the results of their work in the form of a scientific paper. At the beginning of the semester, the students first developed the basics for the research fields, then they had to find their own research object within this framework, research it analytically, and develop their own line of arguments. The research process was supported by the lecturers according to the flipped classroom model with weekly Zoom sessions.
Project Results
The students' papers were presented at the student conference held on 11 and 12 July 2020 at Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg. Due to the restrictions necessary to counter the COVID19 pandemic in summer 2020, the conference had to be held without public audience. The presentations were therefore recorded with the help of the OVGU's Media, Communication, Marketing (MKM) unit and provided on the website www.monsterandcity.de. The website was online for the duration of one year.
Project Funding
The Students' Conference was funded by the German Association for the Study of British Cultures e.V. (BritCult).
